Heading into the northernmost parts of Fairfield County, Danbury sits along interstate highway 84 as a solidly prosperous and pleasant community. New residential construction is an ongoing enterprise in an effort to accommodate the growing population. Properties of all types and sizes are usually available at rates more reasonable than the affluent towns in the southern sections of the county. One can find single and multi-family homes, condominiums and many apartment complexes. The Candlewood Lake area is surrounded by a combination of elegant estates, small waterfront weekend cottages and a smattering of restored historic homes.
Attractions include the Danbury Railway Museum; a fascinating exhibit of early railroad artifacts and photos displayed inside the city's restored Union Station. Behind the station, is a collection of vintage rail cars including engines, coaches, and cabooses. Danbury's two lakes, CandleWood Lake and Kenosha Lake, offer ample opportunities for fishing, boating and nature study. An outstanding golf course, one of the top 50 city courses in the U.S., can be found at Richter Park.
Danbury's educational needs are fulfilled by numerous private secular and parochial schools. High schools offer vocational and technical training programs. Plus, the town offers one of the best special pre-school programs for handicapped children in the state. |
